Useful in parts. Fine as a reference, less so as a cover-to-cover read.
This is the third book I have read on computer graphics this year, and it is comfortably the best of them. The exercises at the end of each chapter are worth doing — they caught a few misconceptions I did not know I had. I appreciated the honesty about what the book does not cover — it saved me from expecting things that were not there. It is denser than the page count suggests, and I found myself slowing down around the middle. Borrow it first if you can, or at least check the table of contents carefully before buying.
The clearest explanation of javascript I have come across.
This is the third book I have read on javascript this year, and it is comfortably the best of them. Some of the diagrams are dense and I had to reread a few sections, though that may just be me. A few of the examples could be more realistic, but the underlying points come across clearly. The author clearly knows the subject deeply and has thought hard about how to teach it. This is the book I wish had existed when I started working with javascript.
Solid and well-organised. A couple of chapters dragged a little.
This is the third book I have read on webgpu this year, and it is comfortably the best of them. It is denser than the page count suggests, and I found myself slowing down around the middle. Some terminology is introduced without much ceremony; I had to look a few things up along the way. Worth picking up if you already have the basics. Set realistic expectations and you will get a lot out of it.
Very good, with a few caveats. The core material is strong.
This is the third book I have read on databases & big data this year, and it is comfortably the best of them. It is denser than the page count suggests, and I found myself slowing down around the middle. The code samples assume a particular environment, which took a bit of fiddling to get running properly. I appreciated the honesty about what the book does not cover — it saved me from expecting things that were not there. Good value for the price and worth the time it takes to work through properly.
An enjoyable and informative read, though it could have been shorter.
I was looking for something that would bridge the gap between tutorials and proper reference material, and this does that well. I particularly liked the way the author builds up from simple cases before introducing the harder material. Some terminology is introduced without much ceremony; I had to look a few things up along the way. A good addition to a technical library, as long as you know what you are buying.
Genuinely excellent — I finished it in a week and immediately started again.
I had been on the fence about this one for a while, and I should have bought it sooner. Some terminology is introduced without much ceremony; I had to look a few things up along the way. The exercises at the end of each chapter are worth doing — they caught a few misconceptions I did not know I had. Worth the money and the reading time, without hesitation.
